I was never really into supplements at any point in my life… that was until I reached my late 40s. It started with Vitamin C during the pandemic. Then I tried collagen, since a lot of people online were raving about it. I was surprised that collagen actually turned out to be effective for my skin. It was then that I became more open to the concept of taking supplements.
Heart disease is a big problem here in the Philippines. I can’t even count the number of people I know that have succumbed to heart attack — and it’s not just old people! I know it’s largely connected to lifestyle, like what we eat or if we’re moving around enough. But I guess in this aspect, taking preventive supplements may help.
I came across LAC TRIMAX Omega Fish Oil + CoQ-10 (₱2,880 for 60 softgel capsules). It’s a 2-in-1 product which consists of high concentration Fish Oil providing 900mg Omega-3 fatty acids and 100mg of Coenzyme Q-10 which is essential for muscle strength, especially the heart muscle. The recommended dosage is to take one softgel daily with food.
According to the Mayo Clinic, Omega-3 acids are derived from food and cannot be produced by our bodies. Research says that people who eat dietary sources of fish oil twice a week have a lower risk of dying from heart disease. Multiple studies have also reported a modest reduction in blood pressure in people who take fish oil. There’s also evidence that Omega-3 fatty acids can significantly reduce triglyceride levels. The good news is, taking fish oil supplements is considered generally safe.
I’m not too fond of fish so fish oil supplements are a good idea for people like me. Minor side effects include fishy burps but LAC has addressed this by making the softgels enteric coated.
The older we get, the more health problems we face. If there are things we can do to prevent them, then great! At my age, I can no longer afford to take health for granted so I have to be extra careful with what I eat and drink. I also need to be more mindful of the activities I choose to undertake.
