It’s our son’s 13th birthday today. Over the weekend, we got to talking about gifts. Our daughter celebrated her 9th birthday last October and we still had not gotten her anything. She’s a very quiet and simple child. She never asks for anything. She doesn’t mind even if we skip gift-giving. This time we asked her to think long and hard about what she wants. Our son already knew what he wanted, lol.
After much thought and discussion, she decided she wanted a tablet. We agreed to get her one as her belated birthday present and as a reward for being a consistent straight A student. We got wind of The Great Samsung Sale 2014 happening from Feb. 14 to Mar. 23, 2014. Yes, you can score great deals on Samsung smartphones, tablets, and the Samsung Galaxy Gear simply by heading over to the nearest Samsung store or logging on to Living Social (Ensogo). We went to the Samsung store in SM Mall of Asia and got her a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite for P7,490! We paid for it via credit card. If you charge it straight or pay in cash it’s P7,490 but if you choose to avail of 6 months installment they will add P200 to the price making it P7,690. Not bad, right? The original price is P7,990. This is a new model, just released in the Philippines this February 2014… so new that there aren’t any accessories for it yet.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite is the smallest Samsung tablet with its 7-inch screen. We chose to get a Samsung as opposed to cheaper China-branded tablets because to be honest we’ve never really had good experiences with China-branded gadgets.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite features a 1.2GHz Dual Core CPU and 8GB internal storage which is expandable to 32GB via a microSD. This is a WiFi-only model. It features a 3600mAh battery which means it will probably last longer compared to my Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 which has a 3200mAh battery. That’s good because of all the phones I’ve used the Mega’s battery actually lasts the longest — I start using it at 6am and it’s still alive by 12mn if I don’t turn on the data and use purely wifi.
This is what’s included in the box: charger + USB cable, and earphones. There’s also a start-up guide, at least that’s what I think the paper is lol. I’m so used to configuring Samsung gadgets I don’t really look at the manuals or guides that come with it anymore.
To start using it, simply power up and follow the onscreen instructions. It runs on Android 4.4 Jellybean.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite comes with a built-in 2MP rear camera. No front cam. Our daughter said she doesn’t need it anyway since she doesn’t like taking selfies, lol.
I finished setting it up for her in a jiffy. When we took it home, it had a factory charge of about 60%. Daughter started using it at about 4pm or so and by the time it was 9pm there was still 20% battery life left. Not bad! I played around with it a bit too and so far it’s been pretty good. She will be using it to surf the net, watch youtube videos, listen to music, and play games and for those purposes I think it will do.
You can either visit the nearest Samsung store or log on to Living Social (Ensogo) to check out The Great Samsung Sale 2014.
