While most children are getting cabin fever, my kids have steadfastly refused to go out. Maybe it’s because they’re both in their teens and they understand the severity of the pandemic. I check up on them ever so often — I asked them how they’re doing, if they feel okay… so far so good. The entire quarantine has been quite an experience for them. For starters, our helper left and we decided not to employ a replacement. We’ve all been pitching in when it comes to chores.
Since the kids are pretty much spending 100% of the time at home, I’ve been trying my best to introduce different activities aside from their usual online schooling and watching YouTube or Netflix. These days, I’ve been teaching my daughter how to cook during weekends. It’s our we-time. Cooking is a basic life skill after all and she seems to have the inclination for it. We even do it ala Iron Chef, wherein we have a specific ingredient to work with. For this week, it’s Mekeni Picnic Hotdog!
Oh but we’re not just frying hotdogs and serving them with rice. I wanted to be a bit more extra and decided to teach my daughter how to make Kiddie Party Style Spaghetti with Mekeni Picnic Hotdog.
I had her slice the hotdogs and grate the cheese while I chopped the onions. She can already cook spaghetti by following package directions so I just needed to teach her how to make the sauce.
My method is simple really — I just saute garlic, onions, and ground pork together then season with salt. I add sliced hotdog and luncheon meat and saute some more. After that I pour the spaghetti sauce and mix. I tend to use a more tomato-based sauce and just add a little bit of coco sugar for that kiddie party spaghetti sweetness. This time I just dictated the steps and had my daughter do all the cooking.
And we’re done… we had Kiddie Party Style Spaghetti for lunch. It was good, made extra chunky and meaty with Mekeni Picnic Hotdog! So we’re not just bonding over cooking lessons, we’re preparing a meal for the family at the same time.
Mekeni Picnic Hotdog is made of high quality ingredients so you’re sure you’re giving your family the best. There’s also a Picnic Cheezy Brown Hotdog variant which is oozing with cheese that it’s great on its own — you don’t even need bread for it! You can find them at leading supermarkets, wet markets, online stores, and Mekeni Home2Home Delivery via Lazada.
