Chinese smartphone brand POCO launched its new M3 Pro 5G smartphone in Southeast Asia last June 1, 2020. At a starting price of P8,990 this particular model is one of the most affordable, 5G-capable phones in the market right now. Before we talk about the specs of the phone, let’s discuss 5G first.
There is a race for the fifth generation (5G) of cellular mobile communications among mobile network operators worldwide, mainly because of 5G’s greater bandwidth, which can provide faster connections and better service.
In the Philippines, local operators are also rushing to invest and develop 5G technology for better experiences. PLDT-SMART is ramping up its 5G rollout to over 3,000 5G sites across the country, as well as continuing the expansion of its LTE services. Rival operator Globe Telecoms has likewise tapped Nokia to upgrade its existing 4G network and expand the reach of its 5G network to more than 1,000 sites.
POCO M3 Pro 5G: Hardware, Price, and Features
With these developments, the Philippine market for 5G-enabled devices is larger than ever. So what makes the POCO M3 Pro 5G different from the rest? Let’s take a look at its primary specs:
Hardware
The M3 Pro has an integrated 5G modem that provides a powerful data connection. Its flagship MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G processor has an advanced octa-core CPU architecture and two Cortex-A76 cores operating up to 2.2 GHz. The CPU paired with the Mali-G57 GPU provides an additional 30% performance density and energy efficiency, so the chipset can load and play graphics-heavy files.
Not every smartphone can access 5G networks; it requires these special components to access the 5G frequency. These components are grouped into “rooms” on the circuit board layout, so the power routes are organized. This allows 5G phones to receive the proper voltage they need to tap into higher frequencies.
Features
Among its features, the most impressive specifications of the POCO smartphone are its display and multi-day battery. The 90Hz display allows for smoother scrolling compared to 60Hz screens; it also presents a 91% screen-to-body ratio for an immersive experience and faster visuals. The DynamicSwitch function also lets you switch the screen settings for additional power-saving.
With its 5,000 mAh battery – which is large for any price range – that powers the unit, the M3 Pro manages to deliver optimal power efficiency not seen in most 5G phones. Even after supporting a 5G network functionality, the battery can last more than two days with 18W fast charging support and an in-box 22.5W charger.
Price
Prior to the POCO M3 Pro 5G’s release, most 5G-capable units usually fall in the P17,000 to P20,000 price range. The cost of the M3 Pro is a fraction of that, making it highly attractive for consumers who want to give 5G a try.
There are two variants for the M3 Pro: the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant at P8,990 and the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant at P11,990.
With its sleek ergonomic design, fun colors, and advanced capabilities, the POCO M3 Pro 5G may just be the perfect model for you. Check out our tech archives for further reading on the latest technologies in the Philippines.
