I unfortunately hail from a family of diabetics on my father’s side. My paternal grandma, dad, and uncle are all diabetic. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with both kids. I blame drinking huge amounts of powdered maternity milk for that but still… it just proves I’m highly susceptible to the disease.
That said, I’m trying my best to sweeten stuff we consume on a daily basis as safely as I can. I’ve been using Leaflife Stevia for a few weeks now. It’s an all-natural, zero carb, and zero calorie sweetener that has a host of health benefits. One box containing 40 sticks costs P160, so that’s P4 per stick.
So one of the changes I did was buy 2-in-1 coffee instead of 3-in-1 coffee. I’ve always been a 3-in-1 coffee kind of person. At the back of my mind there was always this concern that there’s too much sugar in 3-in-1, I’m just happy I can buy 2-in-1 (coffee and creamer only) and then just sweeten it myself.
This is a photo of Leaflife Stevia (white powder) on top of my 2-in-1 coffee. It looks and feels powdery, not grainy like sugar. I put one whole sachet the first time I tried it in my coffee and it was too sweet lol. Later on I found my perfect balance — 1 sachet of Leaflife Stevia for 2-3 cups of coffee. According to the Leaflife website 1 packet is equal to 1 tsp sugar when it comes to sweetness but I disagree. Leaflife Stevia is much sweeter than actual sugar so according to my tastebuds, 1/2 packet is actually equal to 1 teaspoon of sugar.
What I like about Leaflife Stevia:
- It contains no carbs and zero calories so it’s great for those who want to lose weight.
- The sweet taste is nice and there is no unpleasant aftertaste.
- It’s very economical. Imagine, I can use one packet 2x when drinking coffee. That’s just P2 per cup.
- You can use it for cooking and baking.
- Stevia is all natural, it’s derived from a green leafy plant called Stevia Rebaudiana.
- It can be consumed by diabetics and hypoglycemics.
- Studies have shown that Stevia is a safe alternative sweetener.
Downside? When I use half a packet for my morning coffee, I don’t quite know how to store the other half packet properly. Our helper mistakenly throws it away if I leave it lying around lol. It may be a good idea to make this product available in bulk powder form so I can transfer to an airtight container.
You can order Leaflife Stevia at https://leaflife.ph/. They offer free shipping if you order 2 boxes. 🙂
