Did you know that premiere panaderia Pan de Manila has a special, by-appointment hands-on learning program called Lakbay Aral sa Pan de Manila? I’ve always loved their pillowy soft and fragrant pan de sal, so I couldn’t say no when I was given the opportunity to experience making bread myself.
I spent Saturday afternoon at Merienda by Pan de Manila along with fellow moms and some of their kids. My own daughter was in the middle of midterms so she couldn’t come with me.
But instead of pan de sal, we tried making ensaymada. We kneaded dough then they took it to the oven. The baking mat was marked with our names so we would could identify the baked products.
Then we were tasked with putting butter, sugar, and cheese on the ensaymada.
They use queso de bola, wow!
I took my ensaymada home after I was done making it.
Lakbay Aral sa Pan de Manila is a workshop held at Merienda by Pan de Manila at Santolan Town Plaza in San Juan City. There is an ₱800 workshop fee per head to be paid upon class reservation. A total of 25 kids maximum plus an adult companion for kids 5 and below can be accommodated. All guests shall be served full meals and shall receive a Pan de Manila apron to bring home as a souvenir. The workshop is from 2pm to 4pm. You can reserve slots and make payment via their form HERE.
This is actually a good idea for younger kids as it’s a different kind of learning experience.
Pan de Manila is actually celebrating their 25th year this year. To commemorate this milestone, Pan de Manila is introducing a limited-edition collection of plates and cups beautifully illustrated by Mia De Lara, in collaboration with Casa Juan. These elegantly crafted items are adorned with classic Filipino scenes that harken back to a more genteel era, where time slowed down and the simple pleasures of life were cherished. These collectibles will be available in select Pan de Manila outlets, Merienda restaurant branches, and Kultura stores in SM Malls nationwide.
