For my 54th series, I watched a suspense thriller entitled Flower of Evil. I had a one month access to WeTV and this was among their numerous K-Drama offerings. Flower of Evil is about a police detective named Cha Ji-Won. Detective Cha has been married to Baek Hee-Sung for over a decade. They have a daughter too. Life is good for Ji-Won and Hee-Sung.
Ji-Won’s unit is tasked with investigating a string of mysterious killings and they seem related to an unsolved murder case from the past. While on the case, Ji-Won is faced with revelations about her husband. He doesn’t seem to be who he says he is.
Hee-Sung has always been the perfect husband and father. But Ji-Won can’t help but be bothered by what she is finding out. Is her husband a killer? Who is he if he isn’t who he says he is?
Flower of Evil is a very engaging series which leads you to believe one thing and then takes a detour to an unexpected plot twist. It was very easy to get hooked. With each episode, more and more questions are raised and you don’t get all the answers until the last parts.
There is a lot of character development from both leads. It’s a love story at it’s core but really not the usual romance — it’s deeper than that.
Since they are in the middle of investigating murders, there are also suspenseful moments.
Everyone hands in convincing performances and the plot moves along rather quickly so there’s never a dull moment. I can’t talk about it too much in detail because I don’t want to spoil it. All I can say is, this is one of the more intriguing K-Dramas I’ve watched this year and I highly recommend it. Lee Joon Gi turns in a Baeksang Awards-worthy performance as Baek Hee-sung. 🙂
You can watch Flower of Evil on WeTV.
