So initially, we wanted to try booking an AirBnB for our recent Tokyo trip to save on accommodation. The problem was, there were 12 of us traveling together. It’s not a thing for 12 people to be living under one roof in Japan. When we finally found a place that could accommodate 12, it cost P28,000 a night (cleaning fee not yet included) and only the bedrooms were on the 2nd and 3rd floors. There was no elevator. This was a problem because we all had luggage and 4 people in the group were senior citizens.
We spent way too much time looking for AirBnBs that could accommodate our group. In the end, we decided to just book a hotel with a rate that was close to what we would’ve spent on an AirBnB. We found Hotel Yanagibashi on Agoda. When we booked rooms last February, it cost around P3.5k a night. When our cards were finally charged, it came out to something like P4.3k a night. Anyway, Hotel Yanagibashi is a small business hotel in Asakusabashi which was near the train station.
We all got a Small Double Room. It’s 10sqm in size, similar in size to our room at Apa Hotel Hatchobori Eki Minami last year.
The room is equipped with all the basics — bedroom slippers, yukatas (Japanese robes), dental kits, refrigerator, hair dryer, TV…
There’s a small desk as well as shoe shining paraphernalia.
They provide tea cups, complimentary green tea, and a small kettle on a burner.
An LCD TV is placed on a wall-mounted shelf.
The bathroom is tiny, much like our bathroom at APA Hotel last year.
The toilet, sink, and shower/bathtub are all beside each other which is usual in Japan. I can imagine taller people or those with bigger and heavier builds having a bit of a problem with this.
So far, all the hotels I’ve stayed at in Japan have provided Shiseido toiletries and Hotel Yanagibashi is no exception. This time we got Rinse In Shampoo (I think it’s 2-in-1 shampoo) and Liquid Body Soap.
So how did I find Hotel Yanagibashi?
- The room we got is honestly good for 1 person… or 1 adult and 1 kid. Two adults trying to sleep in such a small bed is quite difficult. We ended up pushing the bed to the wall so we could fully utilize the bed space.
- Although small and rather worn, the room is clean.
- There is free wifi that’s speedy and reliable.
- The location is a winner. This hotel is close to a lot of restaurants like Sukiya, Matsuya, Doutor, Ikinari Steak, and lots more. Convenience stores abound in the vicinity — there’s Sunkus, Lawson, Aeon, and 7-11. It’s quite a robust neighborhood unlike boring Hatchobori where we stayed last year.
- The hotel owner (I assume he is the elderly man at the reception area) is super nice and accommodating. He would help us get taxis and print out maps for us when we needed to go somewhere specific, like the bus station for the airport. He even offered us free tickets to watch a Geisha show worth 5,000 yen each.
- It’s one ride away from Akihabara, one of my favorite places in Tokyo.
Sure I would’ve wanted a better room but we had a lot of factors to consider. Hotel Yanagibashi isn’t bad, but I wasn’t well-rested when I woke up in the morning because we were so cramped in the small bed. At over P4k per night this actually isn’t that cheap… it’s around the same price as Holiday Inn Melaka lol. Next time when we’re not such a big group, we’ll try staying at an AirBnB which I think is somewhere around P2k to P3k a night.
