When we went to Korea last year, one of the beauty brands I noticed along the streets of Myeongdong was Holika Holika. Holika Holika shops exude a very cute and um… magical vibe, adorned with butterflies plus anime-style witches and fairies waving their magic wands. It’s a pretty young brand, having launched in 2010. This year, Holika Holika finally makes it to the Philippines with the opening of its first shop at SM City Fairview. The first product I got to try is the Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly CC Foundation (P755).
It’s no secret that I prefer Korean beauty brands when it comes to makeup and skin care. I was unable to make it to Holika Holika’s Philippine launch at SM City Fairview but they were kind enough to send me a few products to try out. As I mentioned, I’m starting with the Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly CC Foundation (P755). This is officially my second CC review, yay! Don’t you just love the super cute packaging?
Wow, the price P755 is very reasonable considering it’s a full 50ml sized product. BBs and CCs usually cost around 15,000+ won (P600+) in Korea so I’m very happy to say that like Etude House, Holika Holika’s Philippine prices are close to the Korean SRP.
This CC comes in a tube. You pump out the product to dispense. I like it this way because it’s more hygienic and less messy.
Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly CC Foundation comes in two shades: 01 (lighter) and 02 (darker). I got 01.
Seeing that it’s yellow-toned made me happy. My face is naturally pinkish (unfortunately my neck and the rest of me are not) so I need yellow tones to even out my overall skintone so that my face will match everything else, lol.
Although the product is technically a foundation, I was surprised at how light, water-like, and sheer the consistency is.
Here are my before and after application pics. I had just finished my entire skin care regimen (cleanse, tone, moisturize) when I took the before photo. Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly CC Foundation has an instant brightening effect.
This is a photo I took by the window to see how it is under natural light. Not bad! In fact, it’s very good as it matches my skin perfectly under any lighting condition!
This photo was taken about 7 hours after I applied the product. No blotting. I didn’t touch my face the entire time, I just let it be. I like how my skin looks dewy but not greasy.
What I like about Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly CC Foundation:
- It’s very light — it feels like I have nothing on my face and that’s the way I like it. I don’t like feeling like I’m wearing a mask.
- It smells good (well just about every other Korean BB and CC I’ve tried have a pleasant scent, lol).
- It matches my skin perfectly — not a shade too light or too dark. I don’t have to make any adjustments with powder or whatever.
- It gives translucent coverage so if you have nice skin, it will be highlighted. 😀
- I love the dewy yet non-greasy effect.
- This product has whitening, moisturizing, sebum control, and anti-aging properties.
- It’s got SPF 25 PA+++ so you don’t need a separate sunscreen.
Downside? Well, the coverage is light to kind of medium at best and not really buildable. That said, it may not be enough if you need to hide major blemishes and flaws. For me though it’s perfect especially for daily use because I can’t stand thick and mask-like foundation products. I love this product, even more than my usual BBs lol.
Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly CC Foundation SPF 25 PA++ is available for P755 per 50ml tube at Holika Holika in SM City Fairview. I heard they will be opening another store soon and it will be located closer to me… SM North EDSA I think. Will keep you posted!
