I got a pair of VIP tickets for Carly Rae Jepsen Live in Manila thanks to SUN Cellular. I first watched Carly Rae perform live back in 2013 during the American Idol finals in Hollywood and I thought she was great! 😀
Honestly speaking I haven’t been to Araneta Coliseum (now Smart Araneta Coliseum) in years. I didn’t know what to expect anymore.
This is the second concert I’ve watched this year (and believe me that is quite a record already especially as I am not really a concert goer hahahaha), the first one was the super extravaganza I treated myself and hubby to, Katy Perry. I hated the front act and I don’t know who she is, all I remember is she looked unsavory so I didn’t bother taking photos of her. I just waited for Carly Rae to come to the stage lol.
Carly Rae Jepsen Live in Manila is good old-fashioned singing and performing, not so much on production numbers. In fact she didn’t have any costume change and the set remained static except for videos showing in the background during a few of her songs.
She sang all of her popular songs as well as some new ones from her latest album, Emotion. The only song she didn’t sing was “Take a Picture”, the song I saw her perform live 2 years ago.
I love how a big white dude who looked like a bouncer single-handedly started cleaning up the aisles and areas in front of the stage of unruly people blocking our view. Later on, Smart Araneta Coliseum security people made sure audiences stayed put. Thus it wasn’t hard to watch or take photos.
Yeah, it was a pretty chill night with Carly Rae belting out her greatest hits old and new. The song “Gimme Love” from her new album is officially one of my favorite songs now, hahaha — LSS-ing as I type now. I love how she was able to perform “Good Times” so awesomely even without Owl City (she sang it with her guitarist).
I think she looks older with black hair, the last time I saw her she had auburn hair.
I was expecting her to sing “Call Me Maybe” for her finale, but it was actually her second to the last song.
Her last song was “I Really Like You”. There was no encore, but it was okay. I really enjoyed the show!
Thank you SUN Cellular for my #SunCarlyRae experience! 😀
