Whenever I pick up my kids from school and we happen to pass by Robinsons Magnolia, my son always asks to have merienda at Arroz Ecija Cafe. It’s located on the third floor, right in the middle of one of the mall’s corridors. It’s right across Mann Hann, near all 3 telco stores — Globe, SUN, and Smart.
We’ve been having merienda at Arroz Ecija Cafe for maybe 2 years now. It actually had a different name before… I just wasn’t paying attention. Plus I always didn’t have my camera with me so it’s only now that I’m able to blog about it. Here’s a tip: Order from the Merienda section of the menu and get free puto! Well… we have never actually ordered non-merienda items so I don’t know if the free puto applies to everything else.
My son always orders Pancit Lucban (P215). It’s tasty pancit canton topped with crunchy lechon kawali and garlic bits. There’s even dipping sauce on the side. It’s pretty good. Even if we go to Arroz Ecija Cafe for lunch, he still orders this.
As for me, it’s always their Hacienda Style Arroz Caldo (P139). Flavorful rice porridge is topped with shredded chicken, crunchy garlic, hard-boiled egg, and green onions. I sprinkle calamansi all over it before eating. It’s wonderfully hot and comforting. I can’t get over it so it’s what I order every time.
I normally do not care much for puto but Arroz Ecija Cafe makes them the way I like it — soft, dense, chewy, and satisfying.
Out of curiosity we ordered their Ube Halaya Puto (P29 per piece). My son and I were totally awed. It’s soooo good. You can see, feel, and taste the delicious yam filling in the middle. Yum!
If my hubby and daughter were there that day they would’ve ordered their go-to Pancit Luglog, which is kind of like Pancit Palabok. Hopefully I can take a photo of it when we go back, which is probably sometime soon.
Arroz Ecija Cafe is one of our favorite merienda places. Food is good, reasonably priced, and satisfying. Super love their puto too. We just keep going back.
