Look what just opened at Robinsons Magnolia (my favorite mall by default due to location)… it’s Ah Mah Traditional Homemade Cake from Malaysia! In Malaysia, queues for Ah Mah cakes average at around 45 to 60 minutes. What makes them special you ask? The cakes are made of eggs, milk, and flour with no preservatives or coloring. They’re all natural and healthy.
Ah Mah Traditional Homemade Cake is located at the third level of Robinsons Magnolia. It’s right in front of Robinsons Department Store.
They offer five (5) variants of cake: Original Sponge Cake (P150), Cheese Sponge Cake (P180), Chocolate Sponge Cake (P190), Pandan Sponge Cake (P160), and Ube Sponge Cake (P180).
Ah Mah Traditional Homemade Cakes are made fresh everyday.
We were treated to a sponge cake making demo when we were the Malaysian chef made Cheese Sponge Cake. These are the only ingredients used. I love that there are no additives!
Whisking eggs to a super fluffy state is a major part of the process.
Whole sheets of cheese are laid onto the batter and then covered with more batter. After this step, she evens out the surface and pops the entire tray into the oven.
This is the finished product — Cheese Sponge Cake! It’s pretty good — very light and cheesy. I don’t feel guilty when I eat this because it’s so light.
Having tried all the variants, I can say that my faves are the Cheese and the Chocolate flavors.
In case you can’t make up your mind which cake to buy, they usually have free samples for tasting at the counter.
