The last time we were in Singapore was 2015. We stayed at Marina Bay Sands (I hope MBS has improved since then, but this time I opted to stay at Pan Pacific Orchard). We could see Gardens By The Bay from our hotel window back then but somehow the thought of visiting it never crossed our minds. This time, it was the first thing on our itinerary, scheduled for March 1, 2024 which was our first day in Singapore.
I checked Klook for tickets and most were bundled by two’s. I wanted to see as many gardens as possible so I bought the package which included 3 tickets. All in all there are 4 areas with entrance fees — Floral Fantasy, Cloud Forest, Flower Dome, and Supertree Observatory. I got them all except for Supertree Observatory. I remember it cost a total of US$76 for my daughter and I.
The first garden we visited was Floral Fantasy. It’s a fully-airconditioned greenhouse that is actually cold — a stark contrast to the extreme heat and humidity outdoors. There were colorful flowers set up into different shapes and forms.
There were water installations too which made it even cooler in terms of temperature. It was refreshing because honestly we were dying from the sweltering heat which was hotter and more humid than Metro Manila.
My favorite of the 3 paid gardens we visited was Cloud Forest. This is where Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce went after Taylor’s series of concerts. I was impressed by the giant waterfall and the weeping willow. I enjoyed going high up the top of the foliage.
Cloud Forest’s greener installations proved more enjoyable for me compared to the more colorful ones in Floral Fantasy. My daughter liked Floral Fantasy better though, so visiting the two is a good idea. By the time we got to the Flower Dome however (kind of similar to Floral Fantasy) we were already gardened out. It was then that I understood why tickets were sold mostly in two’s. It’s overkill to do all of them in one visit. Neither of us were plant enthusiasts to begin with but we thorougly enjoyed Floral Fantasy and Cloud Forest. Proceeding to Flower Dome after those two was just too much of the same thing already.
The Supertree Grove is located on the same grounds as the air-conditioned greenhouses and this area is free to visit and walk around in. I recommend dropping by at night when everything is lighted up. We weren’t able to do so because we were busy getting ourseles in position and waiting for the Taylor Swift Light and Water Show at the Marina Bay Sands which was scheduled at 8pm.
