School days are here again! Well for us at least. My daughter’s school has kept with the original Philippine schedule of opening in June and closing in March. But you know what that means — given how often she gets hungry, I need to prepare food she can bring as baon. Something easy and convenient to pack and eat.
Since we are a family of Japan-o-philes, I thought of making a sweet yet healthy treat — Matcha Milk Spread! I’ve seen it being sold online for something like P400+ per 250g bottle. I haven’t actually bought one but a frozen yogurt place I frequent has Matcha Milk sauce which I imagine is similar in terms of flavor profile. I was positive I could replicate it. Luckily, I bought some matcha powder during our trip to Japan last April.
I’m using Vinamilk Condensed Milk for the first time. Vinamilk is the #1 milk brand in Vietnam and its products have recently become available here in the Philippines. Anyhow, without further ado, here’s my recipe.
3-Ingredient Matcha Milk Spread
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsps Vinamilk Condensed Milk
- 5 tbsps All Purpose Cream, pre-chilled in the refrigerator
- 1/2 tsp Matcha Powder (I bought mine near Mt. Fuji, but you can easily Google “where to buy matcha powder philippines” and find a local source.)
For the procedure, just follow the photos.
1. Mix the all purpose cream and Vinamilk Condensed Milk together very well. The cream should be chilled so that it’s stiff. We need it to be stiff so that you can spread it right after making it. Combining these 2 ingredients should give you this creamy consistency.
2. Add the matcha powder. Mix very well. You can adjust the taste at this point. I like my spread with a deep matcha taste that’s not overly sweet so these are my proportions.
Since I was taking photos while making this, my cream mixture lost its cool (it became liquid-y) so I had to refrigerate it for 2-3 hours prior to spreading.
This is the consistency after refrigeration. I only make small batches since I don’t use preservatives. It’s super quick and easy anyway. 🙂
My daughter likes it on whole wheat bread. You can also drizzle this onto your hotcakes, waffles, sliced bananas, ice cream, etc.
At the moment, Vinamilk Condensed Milk is sold at Unimart (Greenhills and Kapitolyo), Makati Supermarket Alabang, Shoppers Mart Binondo, Anson Supermarket Cubao, and Easymart Mandaluyong. It’s currently one of the most affordable condensed milk brands in the market at P32 per can. Will update this space when it’s available in more outlets.
