When someone says Pampanga’s Best, sweet morsels of pork tocino come to mind. Established in 1967, Pampanga’s Best has always been best known for their tocino. As the story goes, Mrs. Lolita Hizon’s neighbor, a meat vendor, asked for her help in cooking unsold meat. Mrs. Hizon came up with a formula to cure the meat, causing it to develop a unique salty-sweet taste Filipinos have come to love. She called it “Tocino”, which was derived from a Spanish delicacy that is sweet.
Anyhow, some weeks ago I met up with the folks over at Pampanga’s Best. I was given a challenge. They would give me a starter Pampanga’s Best package and it was up to me to grow it into a thriving home-based business. A few days after our meeting, they delivered P5,000 worth of assorted meat products to my house.
The first challenge was, where to put the items. I only have one full-sized refrigerator at home. My hubby told me that P5,000 worth of meat products would not fit in our freezer. He was right. I had to think of an immediate solution.
I called my stepmom. She runs the canteen in our family’s printing press. Plus they have freezers over there. To make a long story short, I consigned all my items to her. I would give everything to her at cost and she would have the option of either selling as is to canteen patrons or cooking them and selling as meals for lunch and merienda. I told her she had free reign on the pricing and that she could keep all the profits. It should work because the printing press employs maybe 200+ to 300+ people.
My dad passed away a few years ago. He was only 64. It was the end result of a very unhealthy lifestyle. My youngest brother is younger than my own son. I figured since my stepmom already had the set-up, this venture would be more beneficial to her and my brothers than me. Of course, I will be helping her out along the way. I will do my part to make sure that we can all experience the sweet taste of success with Pampanga’s Best. I would love for this to become a full-blown side business my stepmom can engage in to supplement her income since I have 3 brothers under her roof.
And so it begins. Let’s see how far we can take this. 🙂

Nice, Ro! 🙂 Funny, but I actually tried selling these to my co-moms and they really order from me. But that was before my husband would go to Pampanga regularly. Now my co-moms keep asking me if I still have PB’s products. Unfortunately, my husband doesn’t go to Pampanga as often as before. XD
They have Pampanga’s Best distributors everywhere in MM, so you don’t have to actually go to Pampanga anymore. I’m pretty sure there’s a few in your area. 😀
