It’s no secret that for me, this year is all about getting fit and healthy. I reached my all-time high in terms of body weight last year when I hit 160+ lbs. I was obese and I knew it. It wasn’t a good feeling. I could not fit into my clothes. I could not fit into clothes that were being sold in malls and boutiques too… unless I got a plus size in the range of XXL. It was awful. I looked so frumpy most of the time. People would ask if I was pregnant when they saw me… and who could blame them? When I was nine months pregnant with my first child, I weighed 158 lbs. I had really let myself go.
Through sheer determination and a series of weight management activities like exercise, treatments, and portion control when it comes to food, I lost a little over 20 lbs. during the last several months. I’m not yet at my ideal weight but I’m slowly getting there. Thus, when I was invited to take part in the Nestle Fitnesse 14 Day Challenge, I was only too happy to do so. The challenge entails replacing one meal with 30g of Nestle Fitnesse with half a cup of low fat milk. You can also mix in fresh fruits. Ideally, aside from replacing one meal with Nestle Fitnesse, you should also make sure that you eat balanced meals during the rest of the day.
Anyhow, for the first day of the challenge, I had the original variant of Nestle Fitnesse for breakfast. I actually like it best among the five Nestle Fitnesse variants because I like cereals that are not too sweet and I quite enjoy the wholesome taste and crunch of pure wheat. I poured out what I estimated to be 30g of cereal from the box.
Since I don’t cook, I thought I was going to have a problem with the part where I had to eat balanced meals. What exactly is a balanced meal? How much food should I have? What kind of food should I have? Luckily for me, Nestle made sure my efforts would not go to waste. For the next 14 days, I would be eating healthy balanced meals with vegetables, protein-rich food (meat and alternatives), carbohydrate-rich food (rice and alternatives, and fruit. Best of all, the recipes for these meals will be made available online so we can all start eating healthier!
Just before noon on the first day of the challenge, I received a packed lunch consisting of the following:
- Steamed Fish Fillet with Tomato Sauce
- Steamed Broccoli
- 1/2 cup rice
- Fruits Compote
If this is any indication of how I’m going to be eating in the days to come, I’m really looking forward to my next meals! To recap, for the next 14 days, I replace breakfast with Nestle Fitnesse then replace either lunch or dinner with a balanced meal prepared by Nestle. For snacks, it’s recommended that I munch on fruits or have a cup of yogurt.
I’m about 10-15 lbs. away from my ideal weight and I’m pretty confident that healthy eating will help me get there!
